MX Unleashed, a competitive online fighting game developed by Playrix and published by Atari in 2007, was shut down on November 21, 2017. The game’s servers were permanently closed the same day. Players had until December 21 to withdraw their characters and any rewards they had earned.
MX Unleashed was one of the earliest examples of an online fighting game that allowed players to fight against others from around the world. The popularity of the game led to its continued development even after it was released; updates included new characters, arenas, and modes. However, despite these efforts, MX Unleashed never became as popular as some other competing games and eventually lost users to newer titles.
Playrix ceased operations in late 2017 and declared bankruptcy in February 2018; it is unknown if MX Unleashed’s closure is related to these events. Regardless, many players are disappointed that their time spent playing the game will not result in any further rewards or progressions within the game itself.
