In Paper Mario: Color Splash, the player uses a paint hammer to splash paint onto objects in the environment to affect their color and interact with them. For instance, color can be used to bring life back to objects that have been drained of color, make characters and enemies vulnerable or resistant to certain types of damage, revealing previously hidden platforms and secrets, or summoning otherworldly beings known as Shy Guys. The game is set on an island known as Prism Island, which has been mysteriously drained of its colors. The game’s story focuses on Mario and Princess Peach’s search for the source of the island’s color drain while also rescuing Toads who have gone missing.
