Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is a fighting game developed by Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco Games, with assistance from HAL Laboratory. It was published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console in 2014. The game is the fourth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, following Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and preceding Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
The premise of the game is to fight against other players or computer-controlled characters using characters from various franchises owned by Nintendo. Players can use items to damage their opponents or help themselves in battle. The objective is to knock out opponents off-screen, which will result in a victory screen where they are shown being sent flying off into the distance; alternatively, if one player has more life remaining than their opponent when time runs out, they are declared the winner instead.
Super Smash Bros for 3DS has been generally well received by critics since its release on September 13th, 2014 in Japan, October 3rd in Europe and North America respectively . As of March 2019 , it has sold over 12 million copies worldwide . While opinions on whether it surpasses Brawl vary greatly among fansites and social media platforms alike , SSB4\u2019s commercial success seems indisputable at this point .
While many people still play SSB4 today – including competitive tournaments that take place all around the world – there’s no doubt that interest surrounding it has certainly died down since its initial release 4 years ago
