Back to the Future: The Game is a five-part episodic video game based on the Back to the Future film franchise. It was developed by Telltale Games and released for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iOS, and Android platforms. The game was announced in February 2010.
The first episode of the game was released on December 22, 2010; the final episode was released on October 13, 2011. The game is available for download on digital distribution services such as Steam and Xbox Live Arcade. A retail version of the complete game was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on July 26, 2011.
A Wii version was planned but later cancelled due to development issues. In November 2013 it was announced that Back to the Future: The Game would be ported to iOS devices in early 2014. However this release did not happen until September 22nd of that year – more than four years after the original release date for Episode 1!
The storyline of Back to the Future: The Game picks up six months after the events of Back to the Future Part III, with Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) travelling back from 1885 to 1931 Hill Valley – unaware that his future wife Jennifer Parker (Alyson Michalka) has been erased from existence following a visit by Biff Tannen (Thomas F Wilson).
Marty must restore Jennifer’s existence by finding her parents George (Crispin Glover) and Lorraine Baines (Lea Thompson), while also preventing Biff from altering history himself. Alongside Michael J Fox reprising his role as Marty McFly from all three films in voice over form only during cutscenes; Christopher Lloyd reprised his role as Doc Brown from all three films providing live action footage which is used in place of motion capture animation used in other characters..
Back To The Future:The Game received mixed reviews upon release scoring 68/100 on Metacritic indicating “mixed or average” reviews . Common criticisms were directed at graphical glitches present within some versions of game ,while others criticised what they saw as poor plot choices when compared with rest off series . Despite this however many still felt that Telltale had done a good job recapturing feel off movies while expanding universe they existed within .
