MX vs. ATV Alive was a game released in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is a sequel to the 2008 game MX vs. ATV Reflex. In MX vs. ATV Alive, players can choose from a variety of vehicles, including motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and buggies, to race on tracks located in various locations around the world. The game also features an online multiplayer mode in which players can compete against each other in races or perform stunts together.
On July 26, 2016, it was announced that MX vs. ATV Alive would be removed from digital storefronts on August 1, 2016. No reason was given for the game’s removal. This led to speculation that the game had been discontinued and that its servers had been shut down. On August 1, 2016, Nordic Games\u2014the company that acquired THQ after its bankruptcy\u2014confirmed that MX vs. ATV Alive had been discontinued and its servers had been shut down.[1]
While the announcement of MX vs. ATV Alive’s discontinuation came as a surprise to many gamers, it is not altogether unexpected given the current state of the video game industry.[2] With big budget games such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1 releasing later in 2016,[3][4] it is likely that smaller games such as MX vs. ATV Alive are not generating enough revenue to justify their continued development and support.
