The NHRA Drag Racing: Countdown to the Championship begins with a cleanup weekend at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This year’s show featured the unveiling of several new chassis, including one from J&J Competition Engineering that is designed by Larry DeToya and slated to compete in the Top Fuel category.
Following the auto show, teams gear up for one of drag racing’s most demanding championship seasons – as they travel around North America vying for glory in 12 events across eight states over a four-month period. But even before qualifying begins, teams must contend with scrutineers who check everything from engines and bodywork to fuel systems and brakes. The grueling preparatory process culminates with race day itself – when competitors attack Launch Control at over 1,000 miles per hour in order to take their first shot at becomingNHRA National Champion.
In 2017, tire manufacturer Goodyear secured its 18th consecutive run as title sponsor of NHRA Top Fuel drag racing (the longest active sponsorship agreement in motorsports). As “The Legend Continues” explodes into 2018 with an all-new lineup of cars and stars on track, it is clear that NHRA Drag Racing: Countdown to the Championship will be one for the history books!
