Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is a game for the Nintendo 3DS that was released in 2013. The game has generally received positive reviews from critics, with an aggregate score of 86 on Metacritic. However, there are some criticisms about the game- one of which is its length. Another criticism is that it seems to be lagging behind other games in the series in terms of innovation.
The first Mario & Luigi game, Superstar Saga, was released on the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It was critically acclaimed and considered one of the best games on the system. Its sequel, Partners In Time, was also well-received when it was released on the Nintendo DS in 2005. The third installment in the series, Bowser’s Inside Story, took things to a new level when it was released on the Nintendo DS in 2009. It not only received critical acclaim but also won several awards including “Best RPG” from IGN and “Game of the Year” from GameSpot and others. Finally, 2013 saw the release of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the Nintendo 3DS- four years after Bowser’s Inside Story.
Some fans were disappointed that Dream Team didn’t introduce more innovative features like its predecessors did. For example, one common complaint about Dream Team is that battles are too similar to those found in Bowser’s Inside Story (and even Paper Jam). Additionally, many felt that Dream Team wasn’t as long as it should have been- especially compared to Bowser’s Inside Story which had a playtime of around 30 hours according to most sources.
Despite these criticisms however, Dream Team still managed to receive mostly positive reviews from critics upon release. And while it may not be as groundbreaking as previous installments have been, it does offer a fun and entertaining experience for players nonetheless
